Hawk and cheese – for Big Tent Poetry prompt

July 11, 2010

The prompt from Big Tent was to ‘think of a few well-known word couples and let (or compel) one of them go a little sideways’ – so here’s my attempt (slightly odd but I like it as I just wrote without editing):

Hawk and Cheese

We sat
staring at each other
over the vatty
divide

you’d said lazily
that we were like
hawk
and cheese;
you made
for the attack
and me destined
for the cracker

what could I say?
other than to shrug

I’d never thought of us
in such terms
but I acquiesced
that you must be right

somewhere down the line.

the deadline to vote for poets is Sunday…
    one last chance,
you gain one vote for yourself when you vote 4 others,
simply reminder, ignore if you dislike it.
