Mettle – for Magpie Tales

July 6, 2010

Bound
like backbone
the thread
zigzags to infer
the tale
of fabric against skin

the threads weave
to bring the disparate
together
frays and aging
seen yet kept
at bay
just a little
longer
by deft fingers
and skilled precision

the point

(it exists)

to share a little
mystery
to remind us
of the strength
to be found
in the most seemingly
innocuous
of strands.

I like this a lot. The sound advice hidden within your poem is something I think young people could benefit from learning. Of course, they would word it: Never judge a book by it’s cover and don’t let it all hang out.

I didn’t think so much about the advice in the poem when I wrote it I think…but yeah I reckon it’s a good learning to have!

This was a pleasure to read – not overcomplicated but meaningful, which is an excellent pairing. Nicely done!

I think I naturly err on the side of over-complication so am trying to take it back a step 🙂 thanks for your kind comments
